Eligibility for Interment (Ground Burial of Casketed or Cremated Remains)

The persons specified below are eligible for footing burial in Arlington National Cemetery. The last menses of active duty of former members of the War machine must have ended honorably. Interment may be casketed or cremated remains.

• Any active duty member of the Armed Forces (except those members serving on active duty for training only)

• Any Veteran who is retired from agile war machine service with the Armed Forces. This includes any Veteran who is retired from the Reserves is eligible upon reaching age threescore and drawing retired pay; and who served a period of active duty (other than for training). If, at the fourth dimension of death, a retired member of the Military machine is not entitled to receive retired pay stemming from their service in the Armed Forces until some hereafter date (grayness expanse retiree), the retired member volition not be eligible for ground burying. • Any former member of the Armed services separated honorably prior to October 1, 1949 who has served on agile duty (other than for training) and who would take been eligible for retirement under the provisions of Title 10 United states Code (The statesC.) 1201 had that statute been in effect on the date of their separation.

• Any former fellow member of the Armed Forces who has been awarded one of the following decorations:

  • Medal of Honor

  • Distinguished Service Cantankerous

  • Navy Cross

  • Air Force Cantankerous

  • Distinguished Service Medal

  • Argent Star

  • Royal Center

• Persons who have held any of the post-obit positions provided their last period of agile duty (other than for training) as a member of the Armed Forces terminated honorably:

  • An elective function of the United States Government

  • Office of the Chief Justice of the United States or an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States

  • An office listed in five U.Due south.C. 5312 or 5 U.s.a.C. 5313

  • The Chief of a mission who was at any time during their tenure classified in class I under the provisions of Section 411 of the Act of 13 August 1946, 60 Stat. 1002, equally amended (22 U.S.C. 866, 1964 ed.)

• Any former Prisoner of War (POW) who, while a Pw, served honorably in the active military, naval, or air service, whose last menses of military, naval or air service terminated honorably and who died on or after November 30, 1993

• The Spouse, Surviving Spouse, minor Kid(ren), or permanently dependent Child(ren), and sure unmarried adult Children of any of the above eligible Veterans

• Surviving Spouses of Soldiers who are interred in Arlington National Cemetery every bit role of a grouping burying may be interred/inurned in the cemetery, simply not in the same gravesite as the grouping burial

The following persons are eligible for inurnment in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery. The last period of active duty (other than for training) of old members of the Military machine must accept concluded honorably.

• Whatever member of the Military machine who dies on active duty

• Any former member of the Armed Forces who served on active duty (other than for training) and whose concluding service terminated honorably

• Whatsoever member of a Reserve Component of the Armed services, and whatever fellow member of the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard, whose decease occurs nether honorable conditions while he is on active duty for training or performing full-time service; performing authorized travel to or from that duty or service; or is on authorized inactive duty training including training performed as a member of the Army National Guard or the Air National Baby-sit. Also included are those members whose deaths occur while hospitalized or undergoing treatment at the expense of the United states of america for injury or disease contracted or incurred under honorable conditions while on that duty or service or performing that travel or inactive duty training.

• Any fellow member of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps of the Ground forces, Navy, or Air Force whose death occurs under honorable atmospheric condition while attending an authorized training army camp or on an authorized practice cruise, performing authorized travel to or from that camp or cruise, or hospitalized or undergoing treatment at the expense of the United States for injury or disease contracted or incurred under honorable conditions while attending that camp or prowl, performing that travel, or undergoing that hospitalization or handling at the expense of the U.s.a..

• Whatsoever former Prisoner of War who, while a Pow, served honorably in the agile war machine, naval, or air service, whose last menstruum of agile military, naval, or air service terminated honorably and who died on or after Nov 30, 1993

• Whatsoever citizen of the United States who, during whatsoever war in which the United States has been or may hereafter be engaged, served in the Armed Forces of any government centrolineal with the The states during that war, whose concluding active service terminated honorably past death or otherwise, and who was a citizen of the United States at the time of entry on such service and at the fourth dimension of death

• Commissioned officers, The states Coast and Geodetic Survey (at present National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) who die during or subsequent to the service specified in the following categories and whose last service terminated honorably:

  • Assignment to areas of firsthand war machine adventure

  • Served in the Philippine Islands on December seven, 1941

  • Transferred to the Department of the Army or the Section of the Navy under certain statutes

Likewise, whatever commissioned officeholder of the Regular or Reserve Corps of the Public Health Service who performed active service prior to July 29, 1945 in time of war; on item for duty with the War machine; or while the service was part of the military forces of the U.s. pursuant to Executive gild of the President.

Spouses, modest Children, and dependent adult Children of the persons listed higher up. (Army Regulation 290-5 defines an adult dependent Child as an adult permanently incapable of self-support because of physical or mental disability incurred before age 21.)
